Strategy Session

Ninety minutes on one decision.

You don't need thirty years of experience. You need it for ninety minutes.

Maybe someone made an offer for the company. Maybe you're about to change your prices, move the business onto a new platform, or sign for an AI tool everyone says you need. Maybe the marketing budget keeps going up and the results don't. Whatever it is, it's one decision, there's real money on it, and you'd like someone who has seen it before to look at it with you first. Bring me the decision and the numbers. You'll leave with a written summary and a clear next step.

What to expect

Before

Once you book, I send a short list of what to have ready: the decision in one sentence, the numbers behind it, and anything you've already tried. I read it all before we meet, so the ninety minutes go to thinking, not catching up.

During

We work the decision from the revenue outcome backward: what has to be true for it to pay off, what the numbers support and what they don't, where the risk actually sits, and what I'd do next if it were my money. I'll tell you plainly if I think you're asking the wrong question.

After

Within three business days you get a written summary: the recommendation, the reasoning, the numbers we relied on, and the next two or three moves. It's written for you to forward to a partner, a board or a spouse.

If there's more to do

Some decisions turn out to be one piece of a bigger problem. If you continue into the diagnostic or any other engagement, the full session fee comes off that invoice. No pressure either way; most sessions stand on their own.

Why me

In 1994 I started an agency that worked with more than 100 Fortune 500 companies, and sold it in 2001. I designed the tracking behind a Terminix campaign that ran for over a decade, and helped take an insurer's website from $330K to $16.8M a year. I've also made bets that went to zero; the 2007 crash took most of them. Since 2008 I've advised companies at the moment a decision like yours comes up.

I've seen a lot of these decisions play out, good and bad. That's what you're getting for ninety minutes: thirty years of seeing what works, what doesn't, and what gets expensive.

Some of it is experience. Some of it is just distance. When you run a business every day, you stop seeing parts of it, the way anyone does in a place they know well. I don't work inside yours, so I see it fresh.

Good fit

One concrete decision with money attached, and the authority to act on it. Companies from a few million to a hundred million in revenue, though the size matters less than the decision. It is not a fit for general advice, for a decision someone else will make, or for validating something already decided.

The terms

Fee

$1,500, charged two business days after the written summary is delivered. One decision per session; if a second one comes up, we book a second session.

Tell me it wasn't worth it, and you don't pay

Your card will be charged two business days after the summary has been delivered. If you don't feel the session was worth it, tell me before and you won't pay a dime. I'd rather not be paid than have someone feel they paid for a conversation.

Credit toward engagements

The full fee is credited against the diagnostic engagement or any other engagement we start within twelve months of the session.

Scheduling

Sessions run on video, or in person in Orange County by arrangement. Reschedule any time up to 48 hours before we meet at no charge. A card holds your time. Miss the session, or cancel with less than 48 hours' notice, and a $500 fee applies.

Confidentiality

Everything you share before, during and after the session is held in strict confidence. Nothing about your company appears anywhere without your written consent.

What it isn't

A strategy session is business judgment, not legal, financial, accounting or investment advice. Where a decision needs a lawyer or a CPA, I'll say so.
